Robert Rogers of the Rangers

  • Sanford-Springvale Historical Museum 505 Main Street Springvale, ME, 04083 United States (map)

Presented by George Morrison. The renowned Robert Rogers was a New Hampshire frontiersman who rose to fame during the French and Indian War while leading his “Rogers' Rangers” company of soldiers — before siding with the British during the American Revolutionary War. At one time he was the single best-known American on both sides of the Atlantic. Thirty years after his 1795 death in obscurity, Rogers’ exploits were mined by James Fenimore Cooper for his best-selling novels, and he was later featured in more novels, histories, movies, and television. George Morrison takes us on that journey from colonial North America to the 21st century.
