Pianist Ilya Kazantsev and Cellist Sergey Antonov return to the Historical Museum in Springvale on Saturday evening, November 4th. Dr. Morton Gold in his review of their performance last year wrote, “How fortunate are those who were to experience a performance of musicians who could readily be giving concerts in any great music center of the world. AND it took place in Springvale.” Kazantsev and Antonov performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, just a few days before their Springvale appearance.
Both are the products of the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow and entered as child prodigies. Kazantsev came to New York after winning the Rubinstein International Competition in Paris. He made his sold out solo début at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Antonov came to America after touring Europe with Mstislav Rostropovich who described Sergey as, “a brilliant cellist." Kazantsev and Antonov have toured Russia each of the past three years.
Their program in Springvale features works by composers from Eastern European locations including Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Russia. Concluding the evening will be Mendelssohn’s Sonata No. 2 for cello and piano.
