BACKGROUND

The Sanford Historical Committee was formed as a committee of the town in 1927 to acquire, preserve and display items of historical significance to the Town of Sanford.  The committee receives all funds through the Annual Town Meeting.  The 2005-2006 appropriation was $5,200.  The committee's tireless efforts have resulted in a large collection of irreplaceable artifacts representing nearly every facet of Sanford's history.

In June, 2005, a private organization formed to help support the town and committee's efforts to preserve, acquire and display Sanford and Springvale's rich history.  The Sanford-Springvale Historical Society, a non-profit organization, opened membership to any interested persons.
